A science, because chiropractic refers to anatomy, physiology and neurology.
A philosophy that considers the patient as a whole and focuses on identifying and correcting the causes of symptoms that can be of physical (traumatic), chemical (poor diet, pollution) or emotional (family or work stress). These are commonly referred to as subluxations.
An art, because the detection of subluxations and their correction by chiropractic adjustment requiring precision and dexterity. Adjustments are small, fast, painless contacts applied in some areas of your spine and joints. Chiropractic can be used to treat different problems such as:
- cervical pain
- lumbar pain: lumbago, sciatica
- digestive problem
Chiropractors do everything in their power to help relieve their patient’s symptoms as fast as possible and also give advice on how to avoid future episodes of back pain or sciatica.
Because this profession has an unusually large variety of practice philosophies and chiropractic techniques, individuals should feel comfortable asking all the questions necessary to understand the chiropractic examination, diagnosis, and treatment program.
This initial consultation involves the chiropractor completing a thorough chiropractic exam lasting 45 minutes or more.
Which generally includes 3 areas:

The Chiropractic Exam
Findings from the combination of the above described history, physical examination and any required diagnostic studies lead to a specific diagnosis. Once the diagnosis is established, the chiropractor will determine if the condition will respond to chiropractic care.
At the end of the patient’s initial visit, the chiropractor will explain individualized chiropractic treatment plan.
